Wesley Spectrum:Book Binding

This is a high school class that meets everyday for 38 minutes. The focus of this class is bookmaking and book arts. The learner objectives for this course are:

  • Students will understand the process of book making and be able to produce their own unique books
  • Students will be able to identify the parts of a book, as well as various forms of bookmaking
  • Students will be able to alter a book to create a new piece of art

Today students completed their books by adding their signatures to the spine. Students watched a teacher demonstration, and then sewed their own signatures into their books.

Students continued to create their book covers using the new techniques they have learned. Next we will begin sewing in our signatures into the books that students have created.

Students were introduced to book-making as an art form. As a class, we discussed the part of a book and tools that are used in the art of book-making. Students watched a teacher demonstration on how to create a one signature book and began to create a signature. 




 Signature: A grouping of pages in a book, that are attached to the spine
